First of all, I would like to thank you for having contacted me for this interview.
So, in a few words, I'm Jonathan Lambinet, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Brussels in Belgium.
I'm currently in my last year in Social communication (as a Journalist) in college called "ISFSC".
> Why did you have the idea to make a documentary about Rihanna ?
I have Two big passions in my life: audio-visual and Rihanna ( especially where she is from : Barbados).
So, I wished to join the two passions in one in order to build a project. After having done some researches and looking for several contacts, I saw that my project could be realized. This is how the story began and how the project was built.
> How did the trip go ?
Not like I expected, I went on 20th of July until the 4th of August 2008.
I have tried to be the as professional as I could be all along the project, but I’d like to focus first on one thing: my passion! So, there have been some surprises, but now they are part of the good memories (smile)
For example, where Rihanna lives when she comes back, the fact that you need an authorization everywhere you want to record is not a negative thing, but it's different from in Belgium.
The behavior is completely different there, when I arrived in Barbados, a virtual friend waited with me for 3 hours at the airport, and I spent my first night with his family. People were always so generous, even though my English was so bad. I would like to finish my answer saying that, I became a "fan" of Rihanna during my researches and it grew when I met her family, her friends, when
I saw where she grew up, feeling the atmosphere of this little island.
It was just a wonderful moment that I would never forget.
> Can you speak more about your documentary ?
The documentary is especially for the real fans of Rihanna, the ones who want to know more about her and also to put a picture or images in their minds of her beautiful country: Barbados.
But of course, I hope I could touch more people, not only the fans. The documentary presents all the different links which exist between Rihanna and Barbados, but only those that I had the authorization to record. The aim was to show where she is from exactly, and to discover that Rihanna grew up in area of 1 or 2 km² !
I also want to say that the documentary is 100% free and everybody will be able to see it on internet.
I just hope that the money spent will be a good moment for the fans...
> Do you like Rihanna ? Why ?
I don't like to say "I'm a fan", I prefer to say that I love what she does and how she is. Physically, she is a gorgeous girls, but it's not the only raison of the project otherwise I think the documentary could be done all over the world,
I love her because she represents the dream, her way to go where she is now is unbelievable and she shows that you can grow up in a little island that nobody knows and become a star all over the world.
